DONG Energy Climate Award

Student Competition
DONG Energy and the organizers of the conference Joint Actions on Climate Change wished to involve decision makers of the future to provide innovative solutions on reliable energy that combat climate change. University students in engineering, natural sciences as well as social sciences were asked to submit proposals describing their solutions.

Winners
The winners of the DONG Energy Climate Award are:

1st prize: Nan Qin, Renzhong Jiang and Zhenyan Liu from Roskilde University and Technical University of Denmark won the 1ts prize for their project titled: The Key to Renewable Energy - Hydrogen Application in Public Transportation

2nd prize: Artur Pacałujko, Adam Pirek and Witold Bielak from Technical University of Lodz, Poland won the 2nd prize for their project titled: EcoGym

3rd prize: Philip Giødesen Lund and Lars Krogsgaard Madsen from Technical University of Denmark won a 3rd prize for their project titled: Reduction of Energy Use and CO2-emissions from Food Consumption

3rd prize: Otmar Brandweiner from University of Applied Science, Pinkafeld Austria won a 3rd prize for his project titled: Analysis an modelling of the market based integration and balancing of fluctuating wind productions in the West-Danish, German and Austrian electricity systems

3rd prize: Liu Guoguo from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden won a 3rd prize for her project titled: Solving the City Climate Problem with Integration of Technologies and Management in Building Sector and Urban System

Prizes
The first prize was 30.000 DKK, the second prize was 20.000 DKK and 3 third prizes receive each 10.000 DKK. The awards were sponsored by DONG Energy. The winners have been notified. The money will be transferred in the first half of July 2009 from Aalborg University.

Evaluation of proposals
The proposed solutions should be realistic within the first half of this century. Furthermore the solutions were evaluated against the following four criteria:
• Impact on climate change
• Degree of innovation
• Inspiration to others
• Feasibility
