Excursions

On the June 8, 2009 a number of conference-related events will take place to get in the right mood before the main conference starts. Below you find further information on each event.

Excursion (6 1/2 hours): Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy (cliclk for more info)

Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy represents 25 years of research and development in renewable energy and pre-industrial energy solutions. Today the center is one of Europe's largest eco-sites, and you will experience how it all started in Denmark's leading climate region. We will give you an example of modern energy through our intelligent distribution system.

  • Participation and transportation is free, but seats are limited. Excursion (3 1/2 hours): Blade Factory Tour - Siemens Wind Power A/S (click for more infor)

Today 20% of Denmark's energy consumption is produced by wind power. On a windy day, wind power can cover half of Denmark's energy consumption.

In 2007 Siemens Wind Power produced enough windmills to cover 11%-12% of Denmark's energy consumption. In 2008 enough windmills were produced to cover 15%-16% of Denmark's energy consumption. This volume means that before long, Siemens will have produced enough windmills to cover all of Denmark's energy use. Although these windmills are not in Denmark, the problem of CO2 consumption is not country specific. Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at blade production.

Excursion (3 hours): Technical tour to Nordjyllandsværket Unit 3 – Industrial Symbiosis (click for more info)

Nordjyllandsværket, unit 3 is a 400 MWe pulverized coal-fired, combined heat and power plant. The boiler and turbine operate with supercritical steam data and the boiler is equipped with double reheat and full flue gas cleaning. During the design phase, high energy efficiency and the lowest possible use of natural resources were the main objectives. To achieve this, Nordjyllandsværket increased the existing symbiosis with the citry of Aalborg and the local cement manufacturer Aalborg Portland. Come take a look!
